God tells us many times in Scripture to take time to rest.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
“For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, ‘In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.'” (Isaiah 30:15)
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” (Psalm 46:10)
Are you obeying him in this? It certainly can be hard to when we live in such a fast-paced world. Yet, we know in our hearts that regular rest — that being still — truly is best for us.
If being able to rest regularly seems out of reach for you today, be encouraged by what God’s word says about rest. Since God wants us to rest — He wants us to be still in His presence — won’t he also make a way for that to happen?
Ask God to help you take time to rest in Him. Ask Him to clear the way for rest to be a regular endeavor in your life. Partner with Him in your desire for regular rest, and He will help you make it happen.
